Scranton Baseball Wins Third Straight By Outslugging William Paterson, 15-10

MOOSIC, Pa. – Seven different players had at least two hits each as The University of Scranton won its third straight with a 15-10 slugfest victory over William Paterson on Tuesday evening at PNC Field.

The Royals (12-14) used a 10-run fourth inning to turn a 5-2 lead into an insurmountable 15-2 advantage. William Paterson (12-14-2) made things respectable with a six-run ninth inning.

Junior center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) led the Scranton offense with three hits, including a triple, three runs, three RBIs and a stolen base. Senior catcher Dan Hansen (Helena, Mont./Helena) had three hits, including a double, drove in two and scored once, and junior second baseman Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) had three hits, two runs and an RBI.

Junior designated hitter Chase Standen (Newtown Square, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) singled, tripled, drove in three and scored twice to continue his strong work at the plate. Junior shortstop Patrick Mergel (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) had two hits, three RBIs and a run, and freshman first baseman Kevin Haag (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining/Bridgton Academy) had two hits, two RBIs and two runs. And junior left fielder Sean Haveron (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) singled twice and scored a run.

The 19 hits were a season-high for the Royals, who have now scored 10 or more runs eight times. In the three-game winning streak, they are averaging 13.7 runs per game. And over the last nine games, Scranton is averaging 10.1 runs per game.

Senior right-hander Sean McNamara (Scarsdale, N.Y./Fordham Prep) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, picking up his fifth win of the season on the mound. He allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings.

The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday when they host King's at 7 p.m. at PNC Field.
