No. 4 Panthers Sweep Sewanee, 18-2 in SAA

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball team swept Sewanee Saturday in its Southern Athletic Association doubleheader to improve to 31-6 overall, 18-2 in conference play.  This is the fourth consecutive year the Panthers have had 30+ win seasons, and the seventh under Head Coach Jan Weisberg.

 

Four Panthers finished with three-hit days, led by A.J. Hunt (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) who went 3-for-7, including a double, with three runs and an RBI.  Ryan Gaines (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody HS) improved to 9-0 on the year after picking up the game one win.  He went seven innings, striking out eight, and walked zero batters.  Easton Fuller (Fairhope, Ala./Alexandria HS) closed the win for his fourth save of the year.

 

Stephen Himic (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) pitched his fourth complete game and third shutout of the season to win game two.  He struck out seven batters in seven innings of work.

 

The series concludes on Sunday, April 22.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Striplin Field.  It will be senior day for the Panthers.  BSC will recognize the eight graduating Panthers before the game.
