New Paltz Baseball Falls to Ithaca 6-0 on Saturday

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Ithaca College 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks (15-14) will next host the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, April 25 at 4 p.m. The Bombers (19-8) will play the University of Rochester tomorrow at home at 2 p.m.

Ithaca opened the scoring in the first inning with solo home runs from sophomore designated hitter Andrew Baily and sophomore outfielder Sam Little.

Senior second baseman Josh Savacool made it a 5-0 game with a three-run home run in the seventh inning. The Bombers would tack on one more run in the eighth inning on a throwing error.

Junior pitcher Brian LoRusso (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) started the game for New Paltz and gave up three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 inning of work while striking out two.

Freshman pitcher James Magnuson (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and sophomore pitcher Justin Stybel (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) combined to throw 2 1/3 innings of relief, surrendering just one unearned run on one hit.

Offensively for the Hawks, senior outfielder Taylor Anderson (East New Market, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) went 2-for-3 while junior catcher Dwayne Page (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) enjoyed a 2-for-4 performance.

Junior designated hitter Chris Moran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and sophomore shortstop Ryan Frost (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) each recorded one hit in the game.

Sophomore first baseman Justin Ganca (Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore John F. Kennedy) stole his second base of the season.
