North Dartmouth, Mass.--Junior starting pitcher Myles Levy (Cranston, RI) scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings as the Rhode Island College baseball team salvaged a season split against UMass Dartmouth with a 7-2 victory in a Little East Conference contest on Monday afternoon.

RIC (14-15, 3-7 LEC) was led by junior first baseman Frank Pettinato (Cranston, RI), who went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Senior left fielder Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore designated hitter Mike Webb (Pawtucket, RI) each had two hits in the win for the Anchormen.

UMass Dartmouth (19-14, 7-3 LEC) sophomore shortstop Erick Ramirez (Boston, MA) was 3-for-5 with a run scored, while senior first baseman Taylor Cacciola (West Greenwich, RI) had a pair of hits with an RBI in the loss for the Corsairs.

RIC jumped out to the early lead on an RBI single from Barry in the top of the first. The Anchormen quickly expanded their lead in the top half of the third inning, scoring four runs on a two-run single from Pettinato and a two-run single from junior right fielder Shaun Vigeant (Coventry, RI) for the 5-0 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, Rhode Island College pushed two more runs across the plate on back-to-back singles from senior catcher Nate Cahoone (Westerly, RI) and senior third baseman Scott Linnane (North Kingstown, RI), making it a 7-0 advantage.

UMass Dartmouth plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, but it wasn't enough as RIC held on for the 7-2 victory.

Levy (2-2) picked up the win on the mound for RIC, giving up five hits with three strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. Junior starting pitcher Mac Curran (Lakeville, MA) took the loss (1-2) for UMass Dartmouth, allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings of work.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salve Regina on Wednesday, April 26 (3:30 p.m.)
