DEFIANCE, OHIO – While seven different Manchester University batters touched Defiance College pitching for hits Tuesday, April 25, it wasn't enough to overcome the host Yellow Jackets and Craig A. Rutter Field.

A four-run, five-hit bottom of the first inning gave DC starting hurler Paris Creek all he needed. The sophomore weaved his way through the potent Black and Gold line-up surrendering just two runs on the seven safeties in route to an 8-2 home side win. Freshman catcher Joe Gallatin (Muncie, Ind.) singled and drove in a run, and sophomore second baseman Christian Smith (Fortville, Ind.) added an RBI for Coach Rick Espeset's crew (15-17 overall, 12-8 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

The loss kept the Spartans third on the league standings, two games behind Earlham College for second and three in back of Rose-Hulman for first. Manchester University continues a span of five games in six days Wednesday, April 26, hosting Calvin College of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association at Gratz Field. First pitch is 4 p.m.
