Baseball Falls to Wittenberg in Non-Conference Finale

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Earlham College baseball team fell to Wittenberg University 12-2 in the non-conference finale for the Quakers on Wednesday evening.

Wittenberg scored a single run in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings before putting the game away with a five-hit, eight-run inning in the seventh inning.

Earlham did score two runs in the top of the ninth inning on a wild pitch and an RBI-groundout from freshman Isaiah Shake.

Junior Matt Mathies took the loss, allowing two earned runs while striking out three in four innings of work. Joshua Darang earned the win for the Tigers, pitching 8.1 innings and allowing just one earned run.

Earlham had six hits as a team, two of which came off of the bat of senior Eric Elkus. Matt Baker and Patrick Kenny each tallied three hits for the Wittenberg offense.

The Quakers (19-12) host Transylvania for a three-game series at Randal R. Sadler Stadium this weekend.
