BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Elmira College baseball plated 20 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Medaille College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles won the opening game by a final score of 6-1, before routing the Mavericks in the nightcap, 14-3.

In the early game, the Purple and Gold put up three-spots in both the third and fourth innings, with most of the damage coming off the bat of first baseman Dylan Bellinger '17. The senior slugged gave the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 advantage with a two-run double. He then came around to score on an RBI base knock from Tommy Fogarty '20 to extend the lead to 3-0. Bellinger then went yard for the fourth time this season in the following inning, picking up two additional RBIs and padding EC's cushion to 6-1.

Third-year righty Nick Sampogna '18 earned the victory on the mound with 6.0 solid innings. The Verplanck, New York, native surrendered just three hits with a trio of walks and three strikeouts. He was able to limit Medaille to a single run in the third, this after the Mavericks loaded the bases with only one out. Out of the bullpen, Garinder Singh Sarana '20 hurled a scoreless inning and caught Kyle Powell looking at strike three to end the contest.

Elmira opened the late game by scoring six runs in the first inning on just one hit. In his first start of the 2017 season, Medaille pitcher Joe Napolitano walked four batters and hit two more, which allowed the Soaring Eagles to grab a 3-0 lead without having to swing the bat. Batting ninth in the lineup, shortstop Bryce Plante '18 delivered the big blow in the inning with a two-out, bases-clearing two-bagger that doubled the EC lead to 6-0.

The Soaring Eagles blew the game open in the third with another six-run inning. Cameron Heggie '18 doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch that allowed Matt van Muelken '18 to score, and touched home safely on a Joey Florio '20 sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Hayden Rothenberg '17 plated a pair and widened the gap to 10-1 with a two-run single. Fogarty then picked an RBI with his lone hit of the contest, making it a 12-1 game in favor of Elmira. EC added two more in the fourth inning via a Will Jenkins '18 double and a Rothenberg sac fly to reach the final score.

Joe Kidd '18 toed the rubber for the fifth start of his junior campaign and tossed 5.0 innings of one-run ball. The only hit he allowed was a solo homer to Medaille's Kris Kruszka in the bottom of the second. The third-year right-hander fanned a season-high five while issuing just one base on balls. Fellow junior Anthony Colegrove '18 was taxed for a pair of unearned runs in two relief frames, but struck out a pair.
