GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Nick DeRitis and Liam Sullivancombined for a four-hit shutout in game one to highlight a doubleheader split with Immaculata on Sunday. The Griffins took game one, 5-0, but fell in the nightcap, 8-5.

Game one
DeRitis struck out three with two walks on four h hits as he went into the fifth. Sullivan came on and allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way along with three K's.
Offensively, the Griffins jumped ahead early, getting two runs on an RBI single from Ryan Keen in the first. After back-to-back walks to start the inning put runners on and later advancing to scoring position after a great-timed double steal, Keen delivered with a single to right.

In the second, Immaculata prevented more runs from scoring as left fielder Matt Simon made a catch in left off a long ball hit by Justin Curtin, flipping over the outfield fence for the third out.

Scoreless until the fifth, Gwynedd plated three in the frame on just two hits. With the bags full, IU starter Ryan Blough uncorked a wild pitch in the at bat to Dave Tatoian to allow Justin Curtin to score from third. Tatoian followed with a big two-run single to make it a 5-0 lead.

It was more than enough for Sullivan, who earned his first collegiate save.

Jason Mulvey was 2-for-2 with a double, stolen base, and two runs scored. Curtin also scored twice and walked twice.

Game two
Once again, the Griffins got out early, scoring four in the first inning. With two on again for Tatoian, he would knock them home with a single for the 2-0 lead. Keen would then plate Tatoian on his first career triple. Nick Mulvey then plated Keen with a seeing-eye single through the right side for the four-run lead.

Ryan Tecco hit a solo home run with one out in the second to put the Mighty Macs on the board. They would later answer with a three-spot in the third to knot things up at 4-4. Simon delivered a two-run single as part of the inning.

In the fifth, after back-to-back singles to start the frame and a double steal, new pitcher Mike Di Ianni had one get away at the plate to allow one run to score and give IU the 5-4 lead. One batter later, another wild pitch allowed Simon to score.

Ryan Ficca knocked to two runs with his single in the sixth to put Immaculata up by four.

The Griffins tried to answer in their last at bat, getting two on with one out. An RBI groundout from Curtin cut the deficit to three, but IU starter Eddie Decker got a grounder to short to end it and split the twinbill.

GM starter Jared Gorman, took the loss, giving up six earned runs on eight hits in four-plus innings. Decker threw all seven innings, striking out two Griffins on four earned runs on nine hits.

Curtin was 2-for-4 while Josh Lopez was 1-for-3 with a double.

Gwynedd Mercy continues action on Tuesday when they take on Route 309 rival Arcadia here at 4 p.m.
