BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored as Babson College defeated Western New England University, 3-0, in non-conference baseball action on Monday afternoon at Govoni Field.

With its ninth straight win, Babson is now 22-13 overall, while Western New England falls to 21-16 on the year.

First-year Jake Oliger (Newtown, Conn.) had a pair of hits, while junior John Floegel (Summit, N.J.) and four relievers combined to strike out 10 in an eight-hit shutout. Floegel (4-1) fanned four over five innings, sophomore Max Tannenbaum (Coral Springs, Fla.) struck out the side in the seventh and junior Matt Cuneo (Ashland, Mass.) closed it out in the ninth for his eighth save.

Sophomore Ben LaCroix (Branford, Conn.) and senior Daniel Morin (Salem, N.H.) each had two hits for the Golden Bears, who stranded 14 runners on base. Senior Andrew Mulvey (Bristol, R.I.) dropped to 0-3 on the year after giving up two runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings.

The Green and White jumped on top in the bottom of the first as McHale doubled to right, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then came home on senior Jack Halpin's (Glastonbury, Conn.) RBI single to center. McHale doubled again in the fifth and scored on an infield single by junior Ryan Arena (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) to make it 2-0, and the Beavers tacked on another run in the sixth when Oliger led off with a single and stole second before racing home on a two-out knock by junior David Lennon (Windermere, Fla.).

Western New England was held without a hit over the first two frames, but had ample chances to score over the middle innings. The Bears stranded a pair in scoring position in the third and started the fourth with back-to-back singles, but were unable to take advantage. They also loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth before Cuneo ended the threat with a fly ball to left.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Salem State at 3:30 p.m., while Western New England takes on Elms on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are now 11-12 all-time against Western New England and posted their first win over the Bears since 2002.
•    Babson's nine-game winning streak is its longest since ripping off 12 straight victories back in March 2010.
•    Arena has reached base in 25 consecutive games, Halpin has at least two hits in seven straight contests, and junior Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) extended his hitting streak to nine games on Monday.
•    Rotunno, who lowered his ERA to 1.08, has not allowed a run in 10 straight relief appearances going back to April 3.
