LYNCHBURG, Va. - Sophomore Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) went 2 for 4 with a run as the third-seeded Randolph-Macon baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan Friday evening in the first round of the 2017 ODAC Tournament at City Stadium.

After VWC put up four in the top of the first, R-MC responded in the bottom of the frame. With one away, Butler singled to left and moved to third when junior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) reached on an error. Junior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge), the ODAC Player of the Year, lifted a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Butler.

Butler, an All-ODAC Third Team selection, reached on a bunt single in the third for his second hit of the game.

Spiers, an All-ODAC Second Team pick, went 1 for 4 and stole two bases. Spiers has 19 steals, the top mark on the team and second-highest total in the ODAC.

R-MC lost its first-round ODAC Tournament game for the first time since 2014. The Yellow Jackets have not gone 0-2 in the ODAC tourney since 2007.
