SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team kept its season alive with a 5-2 victory over Castleton University on Friday morning in the NCAA New York Regional at Onondaga Community College. Ithaca, which is now 29-12 on the season, will find out later this afternoon its opponent for a 2:30 p.m. game tomorrow.

The Bombers got on the board in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by sophomore Andrew Bailey that scored junior Domenic Boresta, who reached on an infield single and moved up two bases on a pair of wild pitches.

Sophomore Jake Binder carried a no hitter into the bottom of the fifth inning, but that was broken up with two outs as Castleton strung together three straight singles. Binder got out of the jam with a fly out to left field.

Binder earned his ninth win of the season in seven innings pitched. He allowed two runs on six hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

Ithaca extended its lead to 5-0 in the sixth with a two-out rally on six straight hits. Senior Josh Savacool started the rally with a nine-pitch at bat that resulted in a single to right. Savacool then scored from first on a double down the right field line from sophomore Webb Little. Senior Trevor Thompson drove in W. Little with a blooper to center to make the score 3-0. After back-to-back singles by sophomore Sam Little and senior Ryan Henchey loaded the bases, sophomore Adam Gallagher sent a high fly ball to right, which fell in between Castleton's second baseman and right fielder to bring in two more runs.

Castleton got back into the game in the bottom half of the sixth with two runs, but left the bases loaded. The Spartans filled the bases with no outs on a pair of singles and a walk. A sac fly ensued to bring home the first run and then the bases were loaded again on another base hit. An infield error allowed the second run to come home, but back-to-back groundballs got Ithaca out of the jam.

The Bombers had a chance to add another run in the eighth on a single by Henchey, but S. Little was held up at third on a throw home and then Henchey was gunned down at second base to end the inning.

W. Little fired the final two innings and relief and logged his fourth save on the year in a perfect outing with a pair of strikeouts.

Thompson, S. Little and Henchey each went 2-for-4 on the day as the Bombers tallied 10 hits as a team.

The upcoming game between No. 7 Oswego State and No. 13 Tufts will determine Ithaca's opponent tomorrow. If Oswego wins, then the Bombers will play the loser of the No. 17 TCNJ/No. 21 Southern Maine contest. If Tufts wins, then Ithaca will square off with the Jumbos tomorrow afternoon.
