A first-inning grandslam by senior Joey Galeno (Auburn, Wash.) sparked the Pacific University baseball team to a 14-1 win over Whitman in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
The grand slam accounted for the four run first inning that the Boxers, who added to their lead with a six-run in the sixth inning and one run each in the seventh and in the ninth.
The 14 runs were ample support for senior pitcher Paul Wolfram (Las Vegas, Nev.), who picked up the win and extended the Boxers winning streak to five.
Wolfram allowed three hits and struck out five to even his 2018 record at 1-1. Reigning Northwest Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, Dylan Wright led Pacific with three hits, three runs scored and five RBI in the win.
A solo home run in the eighth by the Blues spoiled the shutout bid for the Boxers.
