Baseball Completes Sweep of William Peace, 9-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team completed a three-game sweep of William Peace with a 9-0 victory at Armstrong-Shelley Field on Sunday afternoon.
 
With the result, the Monarchs improve to 10-1 on the year and have won nine-straight games. The win also moves MU to 3-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Pacers fall to 5-6 and 0-3 in league games.
 
The scoring started in the second inning as Will May led off with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt by Tucker Criswell. May came around to score from second on an RBI single by Jacob Austin, 1-0.
 
Ethan Carmack led off the third with a base hit and stole second before moving to third on a wild pitch. Matthias Carter drew a walk and stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error that allowed Carmack to score, 2-0. Carter scored two batters later after Alex Kachler attempted a squeeze play and the pitcher's attempt at the plate was not in time, 3-0.
 
In the fifth inning, Carmack reached on an error and stole second before scoring on an RBI single by Carter, 4-0.
 
The Monarchs collected six hits in the bottom of the eighth inning and plated five runs. Davis Cass and Carmack each registered an RBI on sacrifice flies, while May and Carter had RBI singles. Criswell also scored on a wild pitch to bring the final score to 9-0.
 
Tristen Luck (4-0) started on the mound and threw 7.0 shutout innings, scattered just three hits and struck out two. Seth Beard and Thomas Dean each tossed 1.0 inning of relief and combined to strike out three batters and allow just one hit.
 
Luke Westmoreland (0-1) was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs (3 ER) on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 7.0 innings. Luke Drancsak pitched the eighth and gave up two runs on three hits.
 
For the Monarchs, Austin, Carter and Parker Clayton were each 2 for 4 at the plate and all scored a run, while Carter drove in two. As a team, MU totaled 12 hits.
 
The Pacers were held to just four hits on the day with four different players recording singles.
 
Methodist travels to face Lynchburg on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 2 pm.
