LAKELAND, Fla. – After a tough first inning, the top-ranked Beacons battled back to score 11 runs, but had to hang on over the final three frames to earn an 11-10 win over the 11^th ranked Lakers of SUNY Oswego Monday afternoon at Polk State College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In their second straight contest against a nationally-ranked opponent, the Beacons got off to another slow start as the Lakers tacked on five runs in the top half of the first.  UMB then chipped away at the early deficit by scoring five runs over the next four innings to tie the game at 5-5.

On the hill, the Beacons looked to Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) to keep the Lakers bats at bay as they continued to fight back.  UMB then took their first lead of the day in the fifth inning when they scored four runs behind RBI's from four different players.  They then thought they had the game in hand in the sixth, when they scored two more runs thanks to a two RBI double by Wanderson Pinales (Bani, D.R.).

Despite the offensive surge, the Beacons pitching staff could not sink the Lakers.  Oswego clawed their way back in the seventh and eighth innings to make it a one-run ball game.  With UMB unable to score some addition insurance runs, they looked to Chris Munro (Marshfield, Mass.) to close out the tight affair.

Munro managed to overcome a tough eighth inning and retired three of the four batters he faced in the ninth.

Tramondozzi collected the victory after going five complete innings.  During that stretch, the junior righty allowed just three hits and combined for four strikeouts. 

Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) led the Beacons with three RBI as he finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.  He also had a pair of sac-fly's in the win.  Pinales also had a strong day with the bat, as the junior transfer went 2-for-4 with the two RBI and a run scored.  He had one of the Beacons two extra base hits, with the other going to Sal Frosceno, a triple. 

BY THE NUMBERS

• The Beacons win over the Lakers marked their first over a nationally-ranked opponent since May 2, 2017 when they defeated than #15/20 Salve Regina University
• UMB is now 1-1 all-time against the Lakers, with their first-ever meeting occurring last year in Florida
• On the day the two teams each finished with eight hits, while the Beacons defense had one of their tougher games as they were charged with four errors.  The Lakers were charged with two errors
• With the win head coach Brendan Eygabroat needs just 12 wins (288) for his 300^th career.
