Marietta rolls to a pair of victories

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida — Brady Cottom singled up the middle driving in Eddie Poster with the winning run in the top of the 10th inning of Marietta College's 7-6 win over Kean University Tuesday (Mar. 13) afternoon. The Etta Express then routed Arcadia University, 18-1, in the second game of the day.

With the two wins, Marietta improves to 6-1 on the season. Kean falls to 6-7 overall, while Arcadia slips to 5-2 on the season.

Marietta forced the extra frame against Kean when Seamus Kenneally blooped a two-out single into center field scoring Connor Golden, who led off the inning with a walk, in the ninth.

Cottom went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Mike Hale also had three hits in the game, including two doubles, and drove in a run. Kenneally, Damian Yenzi and Jonathan Pingree each had two hits for the Pioneers.

David Stover (2-0) picked up the win in relief. Stover worked the final 3.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He struck out one Kean batter. Dalton Wiggins started the game and allowed four runs, two earned, on 10 hits in 6.0 innings of work. Easton Berry struck out two in 1.0 inning of relief.

Christopher Rossi started for Kean and worked 7.0 innings. He allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits. Rossi walked one and struck out one. Jean Sapini (0-1) got the loss after giving up two runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Etta Express rolled over Arcadia hammering out 22 hits in the game. Aided by four Knight errors, Marietta scored early and often. A seven run third inning put the game out of reach.

Hale and Shane Fetsko each crushed three-run home runs for the Pioneers. Fetsko finished 4-for-6 with a double, a home run and five RBI. Hale was 3-for-6 with the home run and three RBI.

Yenzi and shortstop Chris Petrucci had four hits apiece. Petrucci drove in four runs and scored three times, while Yenzi had two RBI and scored twice.

Austin Eaton (1-0) started and got the win. He threw 6.2 innings and allowed one run on eight hits. He struck out three Knight batters. Brenden Lacorato pitched 0.1 inning and walked one. Michael Barnabei tossed the final 2.0 innings walking one and striking out two.

Joe Bartoni (1-1) started and got the loss for Arcadia. He worked 3.0 innings and allowed eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits. Bartoni walked two and struck out three. Nick Roda gave up eight runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings of work, while Mark DiBattiste threw 2.0 innings and gave up two runs on four hits.

After a day off, Marietta is back in action with two games on Thursday (Mar. 15). The Pioneers play Kean University at 12 p.m. and SUNY Canton at 3:30 p.m.
