#11 Rowan Routs Bowdoin, 16-3 For Fifth Straight Win

LAKELAND, FL – The 11th-ranked Rowan University baseball team posted seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Bowdoin College in a 16-3 victory at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

 

It is the fifth consecutive win for the Profs (8-1). Rowan has scored at least 10 runs in every game during the streak. The Polar Bears drop to 1-2.

 

Second baseman Alex Kokos (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) was three-for-six with two RBIs and three runs scored. First baseman Anthony Harrold (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) tallied four hits (five at bats), two RBIs and one run. Center fielder Dan Shane (jr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge), designated hitter Shawn Leydon (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), left fielder Monny Strickland (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and catcher Zach Leach (so. Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII) each totaled two hits. Leydon hit a two-run home run while Shane and Strickland each had a double.

 

Third baseman Justin Provost (fr. Hackettstown, NJ/Pope John XXIII), shortstop Matt Edwards (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) and Strickland drove in two runs apiece. Shane scored three times while Leydon and Strickland each touched the plate two times.

 

Right-hander Andrew Cartier (jr. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.) tossed six innings for the win (1-0). He gave up three runs, two earned, and six hits. Cartier recorded eight strikeouts. Brandon Lopez (jr. Amesbury, MA/Governor's Academy) took the loss (0-1).

 

Bowdoin second baseman Eric Mah (so. Newtonville, MA/Newton N.) went two-for-three. Designated hitter Sawyer Billings (sr. Marblehead, MA/Saint John's Prep) hit a two-run homer. First baseman Brendan O'Neil (fr. Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Bolles School) and shortstop Connor Lee (so. Bedford, NH/Bedford) scored one time apiece.
