ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Colin Selby (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) allowed just one run and fanned nine while pitching into the ninth as the 17th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team downed Guilford 4-1 Saturday afternoon in ODAC action on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.

The Yellow Jackets (11-2, 3-0 ODAC) won their fifth straight game, while the Quakers dropped to 9-7-1 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Selby (4-1) allowed three hits and a run in the first, but surrendered just two hits over the next seven innings. He walked the leadoff batter in the ninth and turned the ball over to senior closer Christian Cok (Chester, S.C./Lewisville), who coaxed a double-play grounder and struck out the final batter looking to notch his third save.

After GC scored its run in the top of the first, R-MC answered in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) had a leadoff single, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and came home on a single to center by senior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) to level the score at 1-1.

The game remained deadlocked until the seventh. Sophomore Mike Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) earned a one-out walk and went to third on a single to left by sophomore Zack Evans (Fort Mill, S.C./Seneca). Duphorn laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to first as Nickles beat the throw home to give R-MC a 2-1 advantage. After junior Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, senior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) drove a single to center to plate Evans and Duphorn, giving the home team a 4-1 edge.

Duphorn went 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI.

Randolph-Macon and Guilford will conclude their ODAC series on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
