LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team capped a nine-game stretch during Spring Break with a 9-6 win over Vassar at Anderson Field on Sunday and a 6-1 loss to Ithaca on Saturday.

Oxy's overall record improves to 12-8.

The Tigers will return to SCIAC play next weekend against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The series begins at CMS on Friday and then returns to Oxy on Saturday for a doubleheader.

Sunday: Occidental 9, Vassar 6

Aside from a bumpy five-run third inning, the Tigers played good baseball with solid relief pitching and six players recording multi-hit days.

Reid Gibbs was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored, Jack Brancheau went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Josh Rego was 2 for 5 with two runs and an RBI, and Max Sterner went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Saturday: Ithaca 6, Occidental 1

Joey Garza went 3 for 4, but the Tigers didn't have enough offense and made a few costly errors in the loss.

Will Martel started and was solid for Oxy, giving up just two earned runs in seven innings of work. Matthew Geiger pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out two batters, while allowing just one hit.
