No. 3 UW-Whitewater's Win Streak Continues

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team downed Grinnell 16-4, in Auburndale, Fla. Sunday afternoon.

 

The Warhawks (5-0) registered 22 hits compared to just eight hits by Grinnell (3-8), including home runs from the first two batters in the game.

 

Senior centerfielder Daytona Bryden hit for the cycle, recording a leadoff home run to start the contest, a bunt single in the fourth, a triple in the fifth and a double to right field in the sixth. He finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two runs batted in.

 

Junior third basemen Cal Aldridge recorded two home runs, three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Senior first baseman Blake Fleischman tallied a home run, two hits and two runs batted in, and senior right fielder Brett Krause was 4-of-4 at bat with two runs and one RBI.

 

Making his UW-Whitewater debut, freshman Matt O'Sullivan tossed five shutout innings and struck out seven batters while earning his first win of the season. Sophomore Connor Moroder stepped in for an inning and registered three strikeouts. In the final inning, freshman Evan Sigmund registered his Warhawk debut and also struck out the side.

 

In the second inning, senior catcher Mike Aiello singled to left field and sent in a run for UW-Whitewater.

 

Aldridge tallied his second homer of the game in the third inning, followed by a single from Krause.  A single from junior Nick Schrader sent Krause in for another run.

 

An error from Grinnell in the fourth inning resulted in two runs for the Warhawks after a single from Krause.

 

In the sixth inning, senior Jeff Szubert posted a triple and sent in two runs to make the score 15-0.  Bryden doubled to right field and sent Szubert in to account for the final margin.

 

The Warhawks continue play Monday against Keuka (N.Y.) at 8:30 a.m. Central Time and St. Olaf (Minn.) at 12:30 p.m. CT.
