The Baruch College Bearcats lost 8-5 to the Beavers of CCNY on Sunday evening at the SUNY Purchase baseball field in Purchase, New York.
The CUNYAC contest was scoreless through the first four innings, but the runs appeared in the fifth inning for both teams.
The visiting Bearcats were on the scoreboard first as Edwin St. Hilaire took advantage of a ball that got away during a strikeout to cross home plate. Liam O'Gara was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the 2-0 lead.
The Beavers jumped ahead in their next at-bat, highlighted with a two-run triple by Chris Moreno.
The Bearcats scored three in the top seventh, starting with a two-run single by JP Ramirez and Gerardo Roque scoring on an error for the 5-3 scoreline.
The Beavers had the last word with four runs on five hits to lead 7-5 after seven. They added an insurance run in the eighth and held on for the win as Christian Barletta earned the save.
The two teams will announce the rescheduled date of their second conference contest sometime in the next few days.
