#1 Rowan Picks Up Ninth Straight Win, 13-1 Over Neumann

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team routed Neumann University, 13-1 in a non-conference game on Monday.

 

It is the ninth consecutive win for the Profs (12-1). They are ranked first in the American Baseball Coaches Association Poll and fifth in the D3baseball.com rankings. The Knights fall to 8-9 overall.

 

First baseman Anthony Harrold (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went three-for-four with a double, a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Left fielder Monny Strickland (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) recorded two hits (four at bats), four RBIs and three runs. Right fielder Kyle Golla (sr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) notched two doubles, three RBIs and one run.

 

Shortstop Dillon Mendel (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) posted two hits, one double and two RBIs and scored one time. Second baseman Alex Kokos (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and catcher Zach Leach (so. Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII) each knocked in one run. Designated hitter Shawn Leydon (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) crossed the plate three times.

 

Left-hander Drew Ryback (so. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) tossed six innings to improve to 5-0 on the year. He surrendered one run on six hits and struck out three. Lefty Phil Sanborn (fr. Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) was tagged with the loss (0-1).

 

Third baseman John Schoelkopf (jr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) tallied two hits for Neumann. Right fielder Zach Ray (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) drove in left fielder Joey Pedorenko (sr. Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) for the Knights' lone run.

 

Kokos brought home center fielder Dan Shane (jr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) with a single in the opening inning. Ray plated Pedorenko with a base hit in the second to tie the score. Rowan scored 12 unanswered runs to secure the victory. The Profs put up three runs in the third and fifth frames and produced six in the sixth.

 

Next, Rowan travels to Haverford College on Tuesday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m.
