Chatham Baseball Drops DH at Thiel on Saturday

GREENVILLE, PA - March 31, 2018 – Offensively, the Cougars totaled 31 hits in Saturday's doubleheader at Thiel but fell to the host Tomcats, 14-11 in game one and 8-6 in game two.
 
RECORDS: Chatham is now 7-10 (0-4 PAC) while Thiel is 7-10 (3-1 PAC).
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars host Thomas More on Wednesday, April 4 in a DH starting at 1 pm, with the games held at Kelly Auto Park in Butler, Pa.
 
GAME ONE (Thiel 14, Chatham 11)
 
AT THE PLATE: The Cougars collected 17 hits, including a 2-for-4 performance from sophomore outfielder Jonathan Scarsella (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), who ripped a three-run homer to left center in the top of the sixth.
 
Sophomore outfielder Hunter Steele (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and junior second baseman Paul Nussbaum (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) combined to go 6-for-12 with three RBI and four runs scored in the leadoff and second spot.
 
Sophomore DH Justin Silvious (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and first-year third baseman Ryan Shawley (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) went 3-for-5 while junior shortstop James Bolander (Fairmont, W.V./East Fairmont) tallied a pair of hits.
 
ON THE MOUND: Sophomore righty Connor Paul (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) started and pitched 4 2/3 innings in the start, fanning three.
 
Bryan Crawford (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton), Adam Cerar (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic), Austin Andonisio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and Austin Ferris (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) all appeared out of the bullpen.
 
GAME TWO (Thiel 8, Chatham 6)
 
AT THE PLATE: The Cougars pounded out 14 hits as the top five hitters - Steele, Nussbaum, senior Carmen Jansante (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Silvious and sophomore Tyler Peyman (Penn Borough, Pa./Penn Trafford)– combined to go 11-for-21 with six RBI and three runs scored.
 
Sophomore outfielder Drew Brannon (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Scarsella both finished 2-for-5 with one run scored.
 
ON THE MOUND: Shawley earned the start and pitched 6 1/3 innings, fanning three. Bolander and Andonisio appeared in relief.
