Chatham Baseball Drops Midweek DH to Thomas More

BUTLER, PA – April 4, 2018 – The Chatham University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to PAC opponent Thomas More on Wednesday, falling in game one 14-10 before losing 13-2 in 7 innings at Kelly Auto Park.
 
RECORDS: Chatham falls to 7-12 (0-6 PAC) while Thomas More improves to 7-10 (4-2 PAC).
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will head to Grove City on Saturday, April 7 in a PAC doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
 
GAME ONE (Thomas More 14, Chatham 10)
 
AT THE PLATE: Sophomore right fielder Jonathan Scarsella (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
 
First-year third baseman Ryan Shawley (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), senior first baseman Carmen Jansante (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) both drove in two runs.
 
Sophomore center fielder Hunter Steele (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), junior second baseman Paul Nussbaum (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) and sophomore left fielder Drew Brannon(Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) all collected two hits each.
 
ON THE MOUND: Sophomore righty Adam Cerar (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) was tagged with the loss, striking out one. Junior righty Brett Vallorani (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) threw six innings of long relief, fanning two.
 
GAME TWO (Thomas More 13, Chatham 2 – 7 innings)
 
AT THE PLATE: Junior catcher Tyler Peyman (Penn Borough, Pa./Penn Trafford) and Scarsella both tallied one RBI while Nussbaum and Jansante collected base knocks.
 
ON THE MOUND: Junior right-hander James Bolander (Fairmont, W.V./East Fairmont) suffered the defeat while sophomore southpaw Meier Parr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and first-year righty Trevor Salvior (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) appeared in relief, with Salvior collecting six strikeouts.
