Kean Scores 15 Straight Runs To Overcome Montclair State, 15-10

Montclair, N.J. (4/12/18) – The Kean University baseball team scored 15 consecutive runs to rally from a nine run first inning deficit and defeat host Montclair State University, 15-10, Thursday afternoon.

Trailing 9-0 after one inning of play, the Cougars (13-15, 4-3 NJAC) quickly tied things up at nine-all in their next at-bat and took the lead for good one inning later, 10-9.  In total Kean pounded out 21 hits with senior Matt Krupa recording a perfect 5-for-5 day with four runs scored and an RBI.

MSU (16-9, 4-3 NJAC) scored nine runs on six hits all after two quick outs in the bottom of the first.  Kean turned the momentum in their direction after an early pitching change in the second frame and quickly tied things up plating nine runs on nine hits.

The Cougars took the lead for good with a single run in the third off an RBI single from Krupa.  Kean added insurance with two runs in the sixth and three more in the eighth. 

Derek Walker (1-0) earned the win in his first collegiate appearance.  Walker tossed two innings of scoreless relief allowing just two hits.  Daniel Chiusano tossed a bulk of the relief effort fanning three in six and a third innings of work.  He didn't allow an earned run.

Offensively senior Frank Urso was 3-for-4 with three RBI while John Carello and Frank LoGiudice each had three hits and two RBI. 

The two teams will be back in action again tomorrow at Jim Hynes Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
