MARIETTA, Ohio — In a battle of Mideast Region heavyweights, No. 3 ranked Wooster downed No. 14 Marietta College, 9-4, Thursday (April 12) evening at Don Schaly Stadium. The Fighting Scots won their 12th straight game, while the Etta Express saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end.

Wooster (17-3 overall) capitalized on a pair of Pioneer errors to plate two unearned runs in the top of the second inning.

Marietta tied the game in the third inning when Geoff Snyder launched his first career home run. Zack Ward led off the frame with a walk. Snyder crushed a full count offering from Wooster starter Andrew Hill off the scoreboard in left center field.

Hill (1-0), a freshman, made the most of his first collegiate start working 5.0 innings and giving up three runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three. Four other Scots each pitched 1.0 inning.

Senior Austin Eaton (1-2) started on the mound for Marietta and threw 6.0 innings. He allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits. Eaton walked two and struck out four.

Kordell Antill gave up two runs on two hits in 0.1 innings of work. Michael Barnabei was also tagged for two runs in 1.0 inning of relief. Isaac Danford gave up one hit in 0.2 innings, while Brenden Lacorato allowed one hit and one walk in the ninth. He struck out one.

Wooster plated two runs in each of the sixth through eighth innings building a 9-3 lead. Marietta managed an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth for the final 9-4 margin.

Chris Petrucci led the Pioneers going 4-for-5 with an RBI. Snyder had the two-run homer and scored twice, while Ward had a double and two runs scored.

Jake Stuursma, Garrett Crum and Nick Strausbaugh had three hits apiece for Wooster. Crumm finished with two doubles and a home run and Strausbaugh recorded a pair of doubles.

Weather permitting, Marietta is scheduled to host Washington and Jefferson College on Sunday (April 15). The single nine-inning varsity game is slated for 1 p.m. followed by a seven inning junior varsity game.
