KING'S BASEBALL WINS PAIR AT FDU-FLORHAM, SWEEPS THREE-GAME SERIES WITH DEVILS

MADISON, N.J. -- The King's College baseball team picked up a much-needed doubleheader sweep of host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, N.J.  The victories enabled the Monarchs to win all three games in the weekend series against the Devils.

The Monarchs won the opener 9-3 before taking the nightcap 5-1 to improve to 13-13 overall and 6-8 in MAC Freedom games. FDU-Florham, meanwhile, slipped to 12-14 and 2-9.

In the opener, the Monarchs struck first when King's exploded for seven runs in the frame, thanks in part to a two-run home run from Kyle Lupas. King's had seven hits in the inning, stringing together five in a two at one point.  Kyle Friebolin, Matt Mellinger, and Brad Wilkins all had two hits for King's while Christian Pack drove in three runs. Dan Hartson also contributed with an RBI double in the second inning.  John Wickiser picked up the pitching win for the Monarchs, allowing three runs on six and one-thirds innings with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, King's scored twice in the first inning before adding one run in each of the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. Lupas was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Sean Padden went 3-for-4 with a double and home runs. Wilkins also added two more hits and Chris Rebar doubled and scored a run to lead the Monarch attack. Hartson was the pitching victor for King's, pitching five complete shutout innings with six strikeouts.

King's returns to action Tuesday with a 4:00 PM home game against Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
