Gwynedd Mercy Battles, Defeats Cabrini

RADNOR, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team scored an 11-7 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over Cabrini University on Wednesday. With the victory the Griffins completed the two-day sweep of the Cavaliers. The game was played at Cabrini with the Griffins as the home team.

Nick MulveyRyan Keen and Evan Miller all drove in a pair of runs while the Griffins collected 11 runs on nine hits on the afternoon. Mulvey and Sachael Sciarretta led GMercyU each with a pair of hits.

Bryan Kaelin earned the victory on the mound in relief working three innings. Starter Nick DeRitis worked five solid innings, striking out five Cavaliers. Dave Tatoianworked the ninth to earn his seventh game finish of the year.

Cabrini would jump out to an early lead 4-0, after scoring a run in the second and three in the third inning. Gwynedd would answer in the third when Keen would smack a two-run double to trail 4-2 after three full innings.

The Griffins would take the lead in the fifth with Bobby Heck leading off the inning with a single. Heck would come around to score on a Sciarretta RBI double to cut the lead to one. A Justin Curtin single and Mulvey RBI single to plate Sciarretta would put runners on the corners with no outs. A walk and fielder's choice would set the table for Shaughn Wright who would come through with a big RBI single to plate Mulvey for their first lead of the game.

The Cavaliers would answer in the sixth with a two-out RBI to tie the game at 5-5, but the Griffins again rallied with a five-run home half to take the lead for good. A Curtin RBI groundout would give the Griffins a 6-5 edge, Mulvey followed with his second consecutive run-scoring single to add to the lead. With two outs, Wright came through again putting the ball in play to force a Cabrini error to plate two more runs (9-5).

Evan Miller would add insurance in the eighth with a two-out home run to extend the lead to 11-5. The homer was his second on the season.

Cabrini would not go quietly in the ninth, plating a pair of runs but Tatoian would get the last out with a strikeout.

*Yesterday, R.J. Boyle went a career-high eight innings, scattering four hits with one unearned run while Dave Tatoian smacked a pair of home runs to help Gwynedd Mercy to a 13-1 win.

Tomorrow's game with Albright has been canceled. The Griffins return back to action on Saturday hosting Clarks Summit at 12 p.m. in a CSAC Twinbill.
