Chatham Baseball Drops Tough DH at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, PA – April 20, 2018 – Looking for the program's first-ever PAC victories on Friday, the Chatham University baseball team fell just short at Saint Vincent, losing game one, 5-4, and dropping game two, 5-3.
 
RECORDS: Chatham now sits at 7-18 (0-12 PAC) while the Saint Vincent Bearcats improve to 11-13 (7-5 PAC).
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars return home tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, to host Waynesburg in a PAC doubleheader, starting at 1 pm, at West Field.
 
GAME ONE (Saint Vincent 5, Chatham 4)
 
AT THE PLATE: The Cougars collected seven hits as sophomore Drew Brannon (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) went 2-for-4 with one run scored, while adding a stolen base.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Scarsella (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished 1-for-2 with a two-run double down the left field line in third and drew pair of walks.
 
Senior Nick Ramsey (Bradenton, Fla./Palmetto) went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly in the second while sophomore Justin Silvious (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) scored two runs.
 
ON THE MOUND: First-year Ryan Shawley (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) got the starting nod and pitched six frames, scattering seven hits with two strikeouts while allowing one earned run.
 
Junior Bryan Crawford (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton), sophomore Connor Paul (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and senior Austin Ferris (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) appeared out of the bullpen.
 
GAME TWO (Saint Vincent 5, Chatham 3)
 
AT THE PLATE: Chatham enjoyed 11 hits – compared to five for the Bearcats – as senior Carmen Jansante (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) went 3-for-4 with a double.
 
Brannon finished 2-for-5 with two runs and Scarsella went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Silvious and George Cedeno, Jr. (Passiac, N.J./Passaic) both drove in a run.
 
ON THE MOUND: Sophomore Adam Cerar (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) went all eight innings, scattering five hits and allowing just three earned runs while striking out two.
