Elsah, Ill. – The No. 20 ranked Golden Eagles bats exploded for four home runs taking game one of this weekend series at Principia, 11-2, Friday night in Elsah, Ill.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Eric Meyer hit a three-run home run to bring Matt Harper and Clay Kelly across the plate to put SU in front, 3-1.
  • Following a Panther run in the bottom of the third, Matt Harper hit SU's a second homer of the game, another three-run bomb, pushing the Golden Eagles lead to four runs.
  • In the sixth, two more home runs pushed Spalding's lead to seven runs. Leftfielder Quenton Brownlee hit a solo homer to lead off the inning, and Clay Kelly battled back from a 0-2 count to hit a two-run home run also scoring Jacob Reece.
  • SU added a pair of runs in the eighth to make the final margin 11-2. Meyer drove in his fourth run of the game on single driving in Harper from third, and Ian Woodall singled to right center to bring Meyer around from second for the final run of the game.

STAT LEADERS

  • Eric Meyer had an outstanding performance going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.
  • Clay Kelly went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
  • Matt Harper finished 1-for-3 including a home run, while driving in and scoring three runs.
  • Quenton Brownlee led SU in extra base hits, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.
  • Jack Parisi (4-1) earned the win. The freshman right-hander limited Principia to two runs, scattering three hits, while striking out six batters in 6.0 innings pitched.

FOR THE FOES

  • Zach Greenie drove in both Panther runs, while Sean Hannan went 2-for-4 on the night.
  • Jake Kearney (5-2) suffered the loss giving up nine runs, on 10 hits, while striking out three, walking two and hitting three batters in 5.2 innings.
