MADISON, N.J. – The University of Scranton baseball team banged out 20 hits to support another strong start from junior righty Pat Rohr (Audubon, Pa./Devon Prep) as the Royals completed a three-game sweep at Drew with a 14-3 win on Sunday.
Scranton (14-13, 6-4 Landmark) took a 3-2 lead into the fifth inning, then broke the game open with four runs in that fifth inning, followed by three each in the sixth and the seventh.
The offensive outburst was plenty for Rohr, who improved to 4-0 on the season by allowing two runs, both earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Freshman left fielder Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal Central) led the offense with four hits, including a double, with three RBIs and two runs. Senior center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had a solo homer, singled twice, scored twice and drove in a run. Senior catcher Kevin Nolan (Ossining, N.Y./Fordham Prep) also had three hits, scored three runs and stole a base.
Senior right fielder Chase Standen (Newtown Square, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) had a three-run homer in the sixth inning and finished with two hits, four RBIs and two runs. Senior designated hitter Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice. Senior shortstop Justin Howell (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) also had two hits with a run and an RBI.
The Royals return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. for a Landmark Conference doubleheader against Elizabethtown at 12:30 p.m
