Pierce Leads Trinity Baseball To High-Scoring Win At Union

Amsterdam, N.Y. - Senior OF Brendan Pierce (Hingham, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with a run, a double, a triple, four RBI, and two walks to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 16-9 victory over the Union College Dutchmen in baseball action this evening at Shuttleworth Park.  Trinity improves to 17-14 with its second win in as many nights, while the Dutchmen fall to 25-8 with their second setback in a row.  Trinity will close its season with a home doubleheader against Wesleyan on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m.

Trinity used a five-run fourth inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 7-3 lead and increased its advantage to 13-3 after the visiting half of the seventh frame.  Trinity junior 1B Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.) belted a two-run homer, while sophomore Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) had an RBI single, and Pierce added a two-run single in the fifth.  Koperniak and first-year C Eric Thronson (McLean, Va.) both had three hits for Trinity, and Thronson smashed a two-run homer.  Senior 2B Cooper Mooney (Southbury, Conn.) and sophomore Mack LAuder (Chappaqua, N.Y) also went yard for the Bantams who smacked 18 hits but committed four errors in the field.  Sophomore southpaw Colby Fortin (Bow, N.H.) improved to 2-0 with six innings of work, scattering nine hits and allowed two earned runs with four K's for the Bantams.
