Senior Ben Meyer won his first college start with a combined four-hit shutout to help host St. Thomas Baseball split Thursday's MIAC doubleheader at Koch Diamond. The Toms' 3-0 game-two win let them rebound from a 5-3 loss in game one.

Meyer -- whose longest career appearance before Thursday was 2.1 innings -- allowed two hits and one walk over six innings with six strikeouts. He came back out for the last inning but quickly surrendured back-to-back singles to start the inning. UST sophomore Shaun Falbo came on in relief and got a fly out and two strikeouts for his fourth save.

Meyer lowered his season ERA to 0.89. Falbo shaved his to two-year college ERA to 0.32 in 21 appearances (28.1 innings) with just one earned run allowed.

St. Thomas (17-13 overall, 12-4 MIAC) had 19 hits on the day, including 10 in game two. They used RBI hits in the fifth inning by Jake Smith, Sam Cobbs and Evan Kolker to snap a scoreless tie.

In game one, UST led 2-0 through four innings. Starter Drew Molin was one strike away from escaping a jam in the fifth inning with no runs but Joey Fredrickson's liner landed on the foul line in right field for a two-run double. Bo Lovdahl's infield hit drove in a go-ahead run, then Mitch Butvilas'  two-run double gave Bethel a 5-2 lead.

UST got one run back in the sixth inning, but couldn't even the score as it left nine runners on base in the loss.

Bethel's Carson Selin (5-0) ptched into the fifth inning, and Jake Marsh got the final eight outs for his seventh save.

The Toms are home Saturday afternoon to face Gustavus and play two Sunday at St. John's. The Johnnies swept St. Mary's on the road on Thursday 4-0 and 3-2 and lead the league race at 13-3 with four games to go. UST is 12-4 with four left, and Bethel is 13-5 with two to play against Augsburg.
