KING'S BASEBALL DOWNS WILKES, FALLS TO MISERICORDIA TO BE ELIMINATED OF MAC FREEDOM CHAMPIONSHIPS

WEST LAWN -- After the King's College baseball team fell to top-seeded DeSales on the opening round of the MAC Freedom Baseball Championships Friday night at Owls Stadium in West Lawn, the Monarchs needed two victories on Saturday to stay alive in the double-elimination event.

The fourth-seeded Monarchs managed to defeat third-seeded cross-town rival Wilkes University 6-3 to remain in the hunt, but the Monarchs were unable to stave off defending champion and second-seeded Misericordia in the evening game. King's fell to the Cougars 24-7 and saw their season come to an end.

King's ended the 2018 campaign with a 21-15 record and played in its third consecutive MAC Freedom Tournament. The Monarchs had gone from 2012-through-2015 without qualifying for post-season play,

Against Wilkes, King's trailed 2-0 after four innings but the Monarchs broke through in the fifth when Brad Wilkins singled, Christian Pack followed with an RBI double, before Kyle Lupas added a two-run home run. 

After Wilkes scored a run in the sixth, the Monarchs added another in the seventh when Wilkins singled and later scored on a run-scoring base hit by Lupas. The Monarchs added the final two runs of the game the eighth when King's took advantage of three Wilkes errors. Wilkins contributed an RBI single in the inning.

Wilkins went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI while Lupas finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run. Pack was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Dan Hartson was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs and six hits in six innings. Chris Lupole earned the save, pitching three scoreless innings for King's

Against Misericordia, the Monarchs surrendered four runs in both the first and second innings and six in the third to trail 14-0. The Monarchs were nave able to get back in the game.

Sean McKee was 3-for-5 for King's while Hartson, Lupas, and Wilkins had two hits each.
