The No. 1 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team defeated UW-La Crosse, 6-4, in the first game, and 10-3, in the second game of a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon in La Crosse, Wis.

With the Game 1 victory, the Warhawks (31-6 overall, 20-4 WIAC) clinched WIAC regular season championship outright, good for the programs 18th WIAC regular season championship and the team's fifth in the last six years.

UW-Whitewater will await its post-season fate of an at large bid as the selections will be announced Monday morning on NCAA.com.

In the opener, senior pitcher Austin Jones (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) tossed the first seven innings, improving his season record to 7-2, and posted six strikeouts.  Freshman pitcher Westin Muir (St. Charles, Ill./North) pitched the next inning and a half and junior pitcher Michael Kaska (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton Community) finished out the game for his first save of the year.

Freshman third baseman Nick Santoro (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) led the Warhawks with three hits and one run, sophomore right fielder Alex Doud (Waukesha, Wis./Mukwonago) added two hits, two RBI, and one run, and sophomore first baseman Ben Wilkins (Sussex, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) tallied two hits.

Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when the Warhawks collected five runs.

With bases loaded, senior Jeff Szubert (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) ripped a single to center field, sending Santoro in.

UW-Whitewater scored two runs when senior center fielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) and junior designated hitter Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) were walked on consecutive at-bats.

Doud collected two RBI with a single to center field.

In the seventh inning, Wilkins reached on a throwing error and Doud scored, making the score 6-0.

UW-La Crosse (24-15 overall, 14-10 WIAC) made a comeback attempt with four runs in the ninth inning , but the Warhawks were able to hold the Eagles off and earn the victory.

In the second game, Kaska tossed the first five innings for UW-Whitewater, improving his season record to 9-1.  Freshman pitcher Matt O'Sullivan (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) pitched the next three innings and collected two strikeouts, and sophomore Riley Gruetzmacher (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) finished out the game at the mound.

Bryden collected two hits and two runs in the game.  Schrader added two hits, two RBI and one run, Brett Krause (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) contributed two this, two RBI and one run, and Szubert posted two hits, two runs and an RBI.

The Warhawks tallied five runs in the first inning. Bryden doubled, stole third and was plated on a single by senior designated hitter Brett Krause (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls).

Junior catcher Mike Aiello (Racine, Wis./Horlick) homered with bases loaded to account for four runs for UW-Whitewater and to make the score 5-0.

A single down the left field line from Schrader sent Szubert in for a run in the top of the second inning.

The Eagles responded in the third, posting two runs to make the score 6-2.

UW-La Crosse and the Warhawks remained scoreless for the next three innings. The Eagles added one run in the bottom of the seventh to climb within three of UW-Whitewater.

A double from Szubert in the top of the eighth sent Aiello in for a run.

After an intentional walk for Bryden, Schrader singled through the right sent to advance Bryden and send Szubert in to make the score 8-3.

An error from UW-La Crosse allowed Krause to reach first base and sent Bryden in for another run and was followed by a sacrifice fly from Doud to left field that sent Schrader in to account for the final margin of the game.

UW-Whitewater out-hit the Eagles 23-16 on the day and didn't commit an error.
