LOS ANGELESTom Butler and Nolan McCarthy were outstanding on the hill as the Occidental baseball team improved to 4-0 with a 2-0 non-conference win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Anderson Field on Saturday.

The second game of the doubleheader between the schools is an exhibition game and neither count towards the SCIAC standings.

Butler started and went seven scoreless innings, striking out four with just one walk and a hit coming against him.

McCarthy, who was named the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week after striking out 11 batters in six scoreless innings for an opening-day win, pitched the final two innings, closing the door on the Stags with a pair of shutout innings for the save. He struck out three batters and didn't allow a hit or walk.

McCarthy has now pitched eight scoreless innings this season, with 13 strikeouts and just two walks.

Oxy got a run in the third when Eamon McNeil drove in Jared Baur with an RBI-single, and one more for insurance in the eighth when Jake Fredrickson grounded out to short, bringing home McNeil.

McNeil is coming off an outstanding First Team All-SCIAC junior season.

Jack Brancheau continued to be a tough out, going 1 for 2 with a pair of walks. He earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after going 5 for 8 with a home run, a double, four RBIs, five runs and six walks in three wins last weekend.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 4-0 on the season.

CMS falls to 1-1.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Whitworth in a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of Game 1 is at 11 a.m.
