The Nichols College baseball team lost to Plymouth St. 13-7 Monday afternoon in a non-conference game at the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC) in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Senior Joe Assenza went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored to lead the Bison (0-2) while graduate student Chris Anderson was 3-for-4 at the dish and a double himself. Junior Christian Naccari reached base three times with a walk and two hits, while also driving in one of the Bison's seven runs on the day.

Nichols junior Jack Dicenso took the hill and went 3.0 innings giving up five hits, five runs (four earned) and striking out two batters. Dicenso ended up with the loss as the Bison sent a total of six pitchers to the mound. The Panthers (1-0) pumped out five homers from student-athletes Jimmy Zimolka, Geoff Kayo, Josh Goulet, Ryan Boldwin and Andrew Wasilefsky. Junior Tyler Brown got the win for the Panthers after pitching 5.0 innings giving up seven hits and four earned runs while striking out six Bison.

Plymouth St. took an early lead in the top of the first inning after a sac fly from Kayo drove in Zimolka. The Bison however, answered right back in the bottom of the first inning with a sac fly from junior Kyle Bouchard and an RBI single from freshman David Caron to give Nichols the 2-1 advantage. Nichols added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning with two more runs coming off a double from Assenza and an error on Plymouth to give the Bison the 4-1 lead. The Panthers went on to outscore the Bison 12-3 in the remaining seven innings to propel them to their first win of the season.
 
Three things you need to know…
-Assenza, coming off his 100th career hit against Wheaton (MA) on Friday is now 6-for-10 on the year with two doubles.
-The Bison pumped out four doubles in the game.
-Despite the loss Nichols (3) had fewer errors then Plymouth St. (4).
