Lyons hand Bison first loss

Senior Joe Assenza collected his 100th career hit as the Nichols College baseball team dropped their 2019 season opener to Wheaton (MA) 7-4 Friday afternoon in Northborough, Massachusetts.

The Bison (0-1) cranked out 10 hits including multi-hit efforts from four student-athletes including Assenza, sophomore Nathaniel Cormier and freshman David Caron and Cameron Legvold. Caron also drove in his first two career runs in the loss. Sophomore Justin Hurley got the start for the Bison, he went three innings, giving up seven hits and 4 runs with only on earned.

The Lyons (1-0) got a three-hit effort from Bryant Salkind and a homerun from Jared Sharkey to help propel the Lyons to their first win of the young season. Freshman Griffin Young took the hill for Wheaton for his first career start. He went 4.2 innings and punched out four Bison while giving up eight hits.

-Today's game marked the seventh all-time meeting between the two schools.
