Auburndale, FL --- Tyrone Paterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) logged a pair of hits in each game as WPI split a baseball doubleheader with Waynesburg (PA) Monday at the RussMatt Invitational. The Engineers (3-1) took the first game 4-1 while the Yellow Jackets (2-2) claimed the second 3-1.
Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) singled in the first run of the day in the bottom of the first. Patterson (2-for-2, walk, stolen base, RBI, 2 runs) later delivered a two-out run-producing triple in the third. Waynesburg got one back in the sixth but a two-run single up the middle by Austin Lindner (Princeton Jct., NJ) made it a 4-1 ballgame in the bottom of the stanza.
David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Dominic Fusco (North Haven, CT) then struck out the side in the top of the seventh and earned the save.
Gallagher went 2-for-3 with the lone RBI in the fifth inning while Jordan DeDonato (Danvers, MA) also went 2-for-3 for the Crimson and Gray in the second game. Michael Fraser (Mashpee, MA) chipped in with a double. Tyler Weiss (Monroe, CT) and Nick Colucci (Lynnfield, MA) each struck out three in the effort.
WPI has an off day before taking on Wentworth at 10am on Wednesday.
