Drew Edges Oxy With Comeback

More news about: Occidental

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team let a late lead slip away in a 6-5 loss to Drew at Anderson Field on Monday.

The game was previously scheduled for Saturday, but was pushed to Monday due to a rainout.

Oxy looked in control of the game and never trailed until giving up four runs in the top of the ninth.

The Tigers had a chance to even the game or go ahead in the bottom half of the ninth when Michael Netzel got hit in the head by a pitch and then Gus Patrick doubled, putting runners at second and third with two outs, but couldn't put a run across.

Outside of the bad ninth inning and a two-run third, Oxy did well on the mound led by Justin Hirschberg, who threw three scoreless from innings 4-7.

With a busy stretch of games coming up, the Tigers pitched most of their relief staff to get work and preserve arms for its upcoming series with Whittier.

Reid Gibbs continued his terror at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. He's up to a six-game hitting streak, with a .412 batting average, and he's 9-for-14 at the plate in his last four games.

Angelo Zorn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a pair of RBIs, and Antonio Andrade went 2-for-3 for Oxy.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 10-2 on the season.

Drew improves to 3-2.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Friday against Whittier for the start of its first SCIAC series of the season.
