No. 3 CNU Gets Better Of Royals

The EMU Diamond Royals lost at home to nationally ranked Christopher Newport Tuesday afternoon by a score of 15-8. The loss brings the men to 5-6-1 on the season as the No. 3 Captains improve to 9-0.

The Royals hit the road tomorrow, Wednesday as they travel to play a single game at Averett starting at 2:30pm. Then due to a recent schedule change, EMU will now be playing at home on Thursday as they host Messiah at 2:30pm.

All of the Royals scoring came in the first two innings. In the first inning, Zach Roberts(Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) hit a double that would lead to EMU loading the bases for Jaylon Lee (Newport News, Va./Denbigh) who walked with the bases loaded to bring in the first run. Roberts scored on the next play as the Royals jumped to a 2-0 lead.

CNU responded with seven runs in the second inning on seven hits that include three RBI doubles.

EMU was ready to respond as they loaded the bases to start off the bottom of the second. Roberts hit a two-run single up the middle followed up by Brett Lindsay (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) hitting a RBI single to left field. The next batter was Lee who launched a high fly ball over the left field fence for his fourth home run of the season as three runs came across to score.

The Captains would go on to score two in the top of the third inning to regain the lead then add to it for the rest of the game. CNU held the Royals to just one hit after the second inning.

Riley Wesp (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) picks up the loss throwing three innings in relief for EMU only giving up two runs while striking out two.

Roberts finished 2-4 with the double and two RBI while scoring twice. Lee was 1-3 with the home run and four RBI. Lindsay reached base three times with a hit and two walks while picking up an RBI.
