Ouch.  It was a nasty Saturday afternoon for the Carthage College baseball team (4-4), as the Red Men were upended by St. Olaf College (2-1), 12-1 in seven innings in Tucson, Ariz.

St. Olaf jumped on Carthage starting pitcher Jacob Delabio for three runs in the top of the first.  The first run scored on an infield error.  Dylan Blake drove in the second run with a single, and Ryan Torbenson drove in the third with a sacrifice fly.  St. Olaf made it 4-0 in the second on an RBI-single by Sam Pressman.  The Red Men got a run back in the third on a sacrifice fly by Cody Phelps.

The Oles went by four, 5-1, in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Tommy McDonald and 6-1 in the fifth on a fielder's choice-RBI off the bat of Matthew Muller.

Delabio (0-2) pitched the first five innings for the Red Men and surrendered six runs, just three earned, on eight hits, three walks and six strikeouts.  Kyle Damon took over in the sixth, and St. Olaf punished him with a five-spot to go up by 10 runs, 11-1.  Pressman hit a two-run single to open the scoring in the sixth.  Torbenson added an RBI-double, and Jake Ossell singled up the middle for two more.  The Oles scored their final run in the top of the seventh on an RBI-single by Blake to up the lead to 12-1.  Carthage put a runner on in the bottom half, but Colton Klein hit into a double play to end the inning, and the game was called due to a 10-run rule.

St. Olaf starting pitcher Sam Westermeyer (1-0) went the distance in the seven-inning game and limited the Red Men to one run on six hits and two walks.  Aiden Early pitched the final inning and a third for Carthage in relief of Damon.  Klein doubled twice for two of Carthage's six hits, which actually lowered his season batting average from .563 to .556. (20-for-36).  The Oles' Blake went four-for-five with two RBI.

Carthage heads into the next-to-last day of its spring trip to the Tucson Invitational on Sunday with a 3 p.m. MST doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran College (0-0).
