PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Shortstop Travis Adams stole home twice scoring the final two runs for the University of Scranton in a 6-4 win over Marietta College Saturday (March 9) evening. The loss drops Marietta to 0-3 on the season, while Scranton improves to 1-3 overall.

Connor Harding staked the Royals to an early lead when he deposited the third pitch of the game over the right field wall for a home run. Scranton added three more in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead.

Marietta answered with three runs in the third inning. After the first two batters of the frame were retired, Brady Cottom reached on a single through the left side of the infield. Mike Hale singled to center and then Jonathan Pingree tripled to the wall in left center scoring both Cottom and Hale. Logan Vietmeier made it a one run game when he drove in Pingree with a single to the right side of the infield.

Pioneer starter Dalton Wiggins (0-2) settled down and blanked the Royals over the next four innings but still suffered the loss. On the day, he worked 6.0 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits. Wiggins walked two and struck out nine.

Kyle Bravin recovered from the rough third inning and retired Marietta without a run in the fourth before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Bravin threw 4.0 innings and gave up three runs on six hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.

Pat Rohr (1-0) replaced Bravin and tossed 2.0 shutout innings to get the win. He walked two and struck out two. Bryan Carmon earned the save working the final 3.0 innings. He allowed one run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Easton Berry took over on the mound for Wiggins to start the seventh and beaned Adams. He moved all the way around to third on a base hit bunt from Harding. After Harding was caught trying to steal second and Berry struck out Jarod Herman, Adams stole home extending the Scranton lead to 5-3.

The Pioneers got the run back in the eighth. Vietmeier led off with a single. Greg Peffley doubled down the right field line moving Vietmeier to third where he would later score on a wild pitch.

Adams struck again in the ninth working a two-out walk. He promptly stole second and then moved to third on a wild pitch. A second straight steal of home made it 6-4.

Vietmeier was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game finishing 2-for-3. Pingree had two runs batted in and a triple, while Peffley had a double.

Marietta plays Arcadia University at 1 p.m. and Swarthmore College at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday (March 10).
