THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Senior Jake Binder of the Ithaca College baseball team spun his best collegiate performance as a Bomber on Sunday against No. 18 California Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, Calif. as he took a no-hit bid into the ninth inning in Ithaca's 2-0 victory. Ithaca is now 1-1 this season, while Cal Lutheran (the 2017 national champions) falls to 9-3 on the season.

Binder carried a perfect game into the eighth inning, but a lead-off walk erased that feat. After a double play and strikeout, he had still faced the minimum through eight innings. In the ninth inning, Binder struck out the lead-off batter but then surrendered a single through the right side. He wrapped up the shutout victory with a strikeout and flyout.

Binder needed just 100 pitches to maneuver through the Kingsmen lineup and struck out five, to just one walk, and induced 14 groundball outs.

It was a pitcher's duel over the opening five innings as Binder and Cal Lu's Troy Frazier traded scoreless frames. Ithaca managed to produce two hits during that time as seniors Webb Little and Adam Gallagher notched singles but were unable to build off the base hits.

In the top of the sixth inning, Ithaca took a 1-0 lead on a one-out RBI fielder's choice by senior Sam Little that pushed home sophomore Garrett Callaghan, who led off the inning with a walk. A base hit from W. Little placed runners on the corners, and after a strikeout, S. Little staked the Bombers to a 1-0 lead on RBI fielder's choice.

Ithaca increased its lead to 2-0 in the seventh on an RBI groundout from Callaghan that plated sophomore Jack Lynch. In the frame, Lynch started things off with a base hit and then senior Matt Carey followed up with a hit by pitch. A passed ball moved both runners up 90 feet and then Callaghan's run-scoring groundout provided an insurance run.

W. Little went 2-for-3 in the game, while Callaghan was 0-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and RBI.

Ithaca is back in action tomorrow against Pomona-Pitzer at 3 p.m. (PST) in Claremont, Calif.
