Marietta steamrolls Susquehanna 13-3

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida — Freshman Jared Strickler was impressive in his collegiate debut picking up the win as Marietta College defeated Susquehanna University, 13-3, Monday (March 11) afternoon in the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The Pioneers improve to 2-4 overall, while Susquehanna falls to 1-3 on the season.

Strickler (1-0) tossed 7.0 strong innings in his first start scattering seven hits. He allowed three runs, walked one and struck out five. John Stover struck out four of the seven batters he faced over the final 2.0 innings.

Marietta banged out 13 hits and took advantage of three River Hawk errors that led to seven unearned runs. Catcher Brady Cottom led the Etta Express attack with three hits, one double and three runs batted in.

Logan Vietmeier, Alex Page and Trent Castle each had two hits in the game. Vietmeier had a double and Castle a triple, while Page blasted his second home run of the season. Page's two-run long ball cleared the fence in straight away centerfield.

Marietta scored four runs in the second inning and never trailed. After the River Hawks plated a pair of runs in the third to cut the Pioneer lead in half, MC pulled away with two in the fourth, four in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.

Marietta plays Eastern Connecticut State University Tuesday (March 12) at 1:30 p.m.
