TUCSON, Ariz. - A late rally by the Chapman Panthers led them to victory as the Piedmont College baseball team dropped a tough 8-6 game to conclude the Cactus Classic in Arizona. The Lions led until the eighth inning when the Panthers scored five runs to claim the lead. 

Chapman recorded the first hit of the game in the bottom of the second, but in the third inning, Piedmont loaded the bases on the first three batters then scored NOAH HEATHERLY on a TYLER SHELEY groundout to lead 1-0. ZACHARY SWINDELL rose to the occasion with his first triple with the Lions to score two more, then Swindell scored on a wild pitch making it 4-0 in the third inning. 

Momentum continued on the side of the Lions as TYLER BURDETTE singled to start the fourth inning and was driven in by JONATHEN BURKETT making it 5-0 in favor of Piedmont. In the fifth, Piedmont would make it 6-0 after a WES SNYDER double, Sheley bunt single and a double steal of second and home. 

The Panthers were held to just one hit until the sixth inning when Chapman scored three runs on three hits to cut the lead in half 6-3. SAM CARPENTER pitched seven complete then gave way to the bullpen. 

The final five runs for the Panthers came in the eighth inning on three hits and one error. In the top of the ninth, the Lions left Burdette on first after he walked to begin the inning. 

Turning Point
--The Panthers scored five runs on three hits and one error in the eighth inning to take the lead. 

Standout Performances
--WES SNYDER was 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of runs scored including stealing home on a double steal in the fifth inning. 

Inside the Box Score
--SAM CARPENTER made his second start of the season pitching seven innings giving up three runs and five hits while striking out seven.

--The Lions went 1-2 at the Cactus Classic.
