DEMOREST, Ga. - For the second straight game, the Piedmont College baseball team was unable to battle back from an early deficit in a 9-7 loss to Adrian College Tuesday. Piedmont trailed 4-0 early but mounted a comeback only to allow a four spot to the Bulldogs in the seventh inning and once again trail by four.
Starter TYLER FAIRCHILD allowed four runs on three hits over his five innings pitched but was off the hook for a decision when the Lions were able to tie it in the sixth inning. The Lions scored two in the fifth on a walk with the bases loaded and a wild pitch then added two more on a CAMERON JOHNSON single to score two in scoring position.
In the seventh inning, the wheels fell off for the Lions who seemed to have momentum after tying the game. Piedmont used three pitchers in the inning and the Bulldogs doubled up the score leading 8-4.
The Lions again battled back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to trail by one but could not complete the comeback.
Turning Point
--In the seventh inning, the Bulldogs batted around with four runs on four hits, one error and left the bases loaded taking an 8-4 lead.
Standout Performances
--Piedmont's 2-3-4 hitters (CAMERON JOHNSON, BRADY BALLSTADT, ANDREW BURDEN) all contributed two hits each.
