LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team bounced back in a big way with a blowout victory over Bowdoin, 14-1 at Anderson Field on Saturday.

Oxy, which is off to a good start to the season, had dropped two non-conference games in a row to Whitman and Ithaca earlier this week as part of a busy non-conference stretch during Oxy's spring break.

Nolan McCarthy pitched six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and no walks to earn the win. He gave up just three hits and one unearned run in the top of the second inning.

Max Sterner finished off the final three innings for the save, striking out five with no walks and just three hits against him.

The Tigers offense was on its game, totaling 14 hits and 14 RBIs.

Oxy center fielder Jack Brancheau was one of four Tigers with multi-hit days, leading the offense with a 2 for 5 showing, a two-run homer and three RBIs. Third baseman Antonio Andrade went 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, shortstop Michael Ingram was 2 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, and a stolen base, and first baseman Jake Fredrickson went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.

Oxy left fielder Eamon McNeil also had a big day, going 1 for 3 with a three-run homer, three runs scored, two walks and a stolen base.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 13-4 overall.

Bowdoin falls to 0-6 on the season.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Sunday against Puget Sound at 11 a.m. The Tigers afternoon game against Principia that was scheduled for Sunday afternoon has been moved to next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
