Bison keep rolling with 5-1 victory

The Nichols College baseball team defeated Keene State 5-1 in a non-conference game Saturday morning at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida.
 
Nichols (5-5) struck first in the second inning when freshman Kyle Desjardins scored from first base on a bunt from sophomore Nathaniel Cormier after Keene St. made two throwing errors. Junior Christian Naccari (2-for-4) continued is hot start to the Spring break trip by tripling home a run in the third inning to extend the Bison's lead to 2-0 over the Owls.
 
The Owls (3-7) only run of the game came off a single in the fourth inning from Tom Meucci (1-for-4), driving home one run before the second run was cut down at the plate after a perfect 7-5-2 relay. Freshman Tyler Heenan drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the sixth inning to give him a team-high two RBI on the day. Sophomore Riley Parent led the Bison with a three-hit day out of the eight hole.
 
Nichols sent freshman Cameron Legvold to the mound for his first collegiate start, he proceeded to pitch seven strong innings, giving up one unearned run, on five hits, and five punchouts. Freshman Isaac Blanford came in for the ninth to secure his second save and the win for the Bison.
 
Three things you need to know…
-Nichols has now started its Spring break trip 3-0 for the first time in program history.
-Today's game marked the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs, the Bison now lead the series 3-2.
-Through three games in Florida, Naccari is 8-for-12 batting with five RBI, and five runs scored.
