TUCSON, Ariz. - Buena Vista jumped out to an early 5-1 lead on Tuesday morning against St. John's, and then held off a Johnnies rally in the ninth that saw the winning run left at second, as the Beavers held on for a 5-4 victory to close out their spring trip to the desert.

St. John's put runners at second and third with two outs after a pair of walks and a wild pitch, but junior Bryce Rheault worked out of the jam by getting a groundout to shortstop for the game's final out and secure his first career save.  

The Beavers led 2-0 in the second after RBI singles from sophomore Tyler Stoltze and senior Noah Paper.  Junior Tyler Tennyson doubled that margin with his first career home run - a 2-run blast that scored Peyton Renning.  He also got the start on the mound and worked two scoreless innings, allowing just three hits.

The Johnnies got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third before BVU quickly got that run back with an RBI single from Renning.

A groundout in the sixth inning for St. John's scored a run in the sixth inning before the Johnnies got within a run with a two-run double in the seventh.  

BVU chalked up 15 hits in the contest while holding SJU to only seven.

Stoltze finished 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI while Paper added three hits.  Renning and Tennyson, along with Easton Bahr tallied two hits to help BVU finish with a 4-3 record on the trip.

The Beavers went with a pitcher by committee approach in the game, using seven total.

BVU snaps a three-game losing streak with the win and improves to 6-7 overall.  The team now has a few days off before it opens American Rivers Conference play on the road with a three-game series at Simpson College beginning with Friday's single nine-inning game starting at 6:00 p.m.  First pitch for Saturday's twinbill is set for 1:00 p.m.
