St. Olaf tops Pointers for third-straight win

AUBURDALE, Fla. – Luke Dahl had two hits and two RBI as the St. Olaf College baseball team downed UW-Stevens Point, 7-5, in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon.

After a five-run fourth inning by UW-Stevens Point (6-4), St. Olaf (6-2) trailed the Pointers, 5-0, but the Oles scored seven runs off of four hits in the seventh inning to secure the victory.

Dahl was 2-for-3 at bat and led the Oles with two hits, two RBI and a run, and Dylan Blake and Jake Ossell each added a hit, run and RBI for St. Olaf. Ben Arndt picked up the victory at the mound as he pitched three scoreless innings and had two strikeouts.

In the first three innings there was just one hit between both teams, but the Pointers broke the deadlock in the fourth inning as UW-Stevens Point recorded six hits and five runs.

Blake started off the seventh inning with a single to left field and a single from Ryan Torbenson loaded the bases. Matt Muller drew a walk, which put the Oles on the board at 5-1.

Dahl followed Muller in the seventh inning with a two-run double and a single from Ossell cut the Pointers lead to just one at 5-4. Tommy McDonaldrecorded an RBI that tied the score on a ground out to second base. A fielding error by the Pointers resulted in two St. Olaf runs and put Oles on top at 7-5, which accounted for the final runs of the game.

St. Olaf held UW-Stevens Point to one hit in the last two innings to secure the victory.

The Oles return to action on Saturday, Mar. 23, for a non-conference contest against the University of Minnesota- Morris at 12:30 p.m. central time in Auburndale, Fla. at Lake Myrtle #8.
